For self-employed people who want to keep their books in their own hands
MILQ does one thing — simple bookkeeping for Swiss sole proprietorships — and does it completely: from quote to year-end. Here you’ll find out whether that includes you.
MILQ is right for you if
- You’re self-employed as a sole proprietor — full-time or on the side.
- Your annual revenue is under CHF 500'000.–.
- You want to keep and understand your own books without learning something new.
- You send invoices — with QR payment part, by e-mail, with a reminder if need be.
- You’re VAT-registered or about to be — net tax rate or effective method.
- You work alone, with team members, or with an accountant who looks in.
MILQ is not the right choice if
- You run a GmbH or AG (LLC or corporation)
- Legal entities must use double-entry bookkeeping with balance sheet and income statement, regardless of revenue.
- Your revenue exceeds CHF 500'000.–
- Above this threshold, Art. 957 of the Swiss Code of Obligations requires formal bookkeeping. MILQ deliberately stays with the simple method.
- You need payroll
- You can record wages as an expense, but MILQ doesn’t produce payslips or salary certificates.
- You hold valued stock
- Inventory valuation and changes in stock belong in double-entry bookkeeping.
Four situations
How MILQ is typically used
The bookkeeping is the same — what differs is who keeps it and how many people look at it.
Alone, full-time
Designer, developer, consultant: photograph receipts on your phone, send invoices by e-mail, copy the VAT figures at the end of the semester. A few minutes a week.
On the side
A handful of invoices a year, no VAT, but a clean income statement for the tax return. MILQ stays as simple as the books are.
Small team
Two or three people book in the same company — with roles, time tracking per customer and a log that records who changed what. No per-user surcharge.
More on collaborationAccountant with small clients
Every client in one login, each company with its own books. The client records, you review — or the other way round. The year-end comes as PDF and CSV.
More for accountantsAnd VAT?
Under CHF 100'000.– in revenue you’re not liable for VAT. Your books stay correspondingly simple — income in, expenses out, done.
From CHF 100'000.– you become liable for VAT. MILQ extracts the tax from every entry and shows the return in the same layout as the official FTA form.
